  • Are you accepting new patients?

    Yes, we welcome new patients.

  • Do you accept my health insurance plan?

Advocare participates with most major insurance plans. As participation varies by region, specialty, and physician, we recommend that you contact either our office or your insurance company representative to verify that your insurance plan is accepted.

  • How do we contact the doctor after hours?

One of our doctors is always available after routine patient hours to answer any urgent concerns you may have about your child. Until midnight each day, one of our pediatric triage nurses will assess your concerns as well as the severity of your child’s symptoms, and guide you to the appropriate level of care. Our triage nurses communicate closely with our doctor on-call. After midnight, one of our doctors will directly respond to your call. Please call back if you have not received a timely response.

IN THE EVENT OF A LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY, CALL 911.

  • If I have a question during office hours, may I speak with a doctor or nurse at any time?

You may call the office at any time to ask questions about your child’s health. We have skilled pediatric nurses who are available to assist you and answer most questions you will have about your child. Our pediatric nurses are knowledgeable and follow strict pediatric telephone protocols provided by the American Academy of Pediatrics. They will also aid you in deciding whether or not your child needs to be evaluated in the office. If our pediatric nurses are unable to answer your questions or if you prefer to speak with one of our doctors or pediatric nurse practitioners, we will convey your message to one of them so that they may assist you.

  • May I request a specific healthcare provider for my visit?

We make every effort to arrange your child’s well-care and follow-up visits with the healthcare provider of your choice. When your child is ill, any of our healthcare providers will gladly see your child if the provider you prefer is unavailable that day.

  • How often does my child need to be seen in the office?

In the first two years, routine health maintenance visits are frequent and follow the guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. After age two, patients are seen yearly for check-ups.

  • What immunizations will my child receive?

To help protect your child from many serious infectious diseases, we follow the immunization schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Please discuss your immunization questions and concerns with any of our healthcare providers.

  • My child needs to see a specialist. What do I do?

For non-urgent referrals:  If one of our healthcare providers has referred your child to a specialist and your specific insurance plan requires you to have a referral, you should first make the appointment with the specialist. Once the appointment is made, please call our office and follow the prompts for our referral line. Most referrals are completed electronically and do not require you to return to the office. We request that you give our staff at least three business days notice prior to your child’s scheduled appointment. You may also leave a message for our referral staff after hours. Please remember to include your child’s name, insurance information, contact number where you can be reached, the name of the specialist, and the reason why your child is seeing the specialist.

For urgent referrals:  when one of our healthcare providers determines that your child needs an urgent referral, your referral will be initiated immediately.

  • When will I receive lab or test results?

If your child’s routine labs are normal, we will send you a letter in the mail to inform you. For any abnormal routine lab results or non-routine lab tests, one of our healthcare providers will promptly call you with the results as soon as they are received.

  • How do I obtain a prescription refill?

Please call our office and follow the prompts for our prescription refill line. Allow one business day for all routine prescription refills. For prescriptions that require prior authorization from your insurance company, please plan ahead to allow at least three to five days for refill approval. Prescription refills for controlled substances such as ADHD medicines are refilled Monday through Friday only.

  • Does your practice support breastfeeding mothers?

Yes, we promote breastfeeding. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding babies for the first twelve months. Breastfeeding helps defend children against infections, prevents allergies, and protects against a number of chronic conditions. While experts believe that breast milk is the best nutritional choice for infants, breastfeeding may not be possible for all women or infants. Some women have specific medical considerations that impede breastfeeding; others choose to feed by formula because of discomfort, work schedule, or lifestyle choices. In these cases, an iron-fortified infant formula is a good alternative. We will gladly discuss your diet and feeding concerns at your child’s well care visit, or please call during office hours to speak with our experienced nursing staff.

  • I just gave birth. When will the doctor see my baby and when should I schedule the first office visit?

If your baby is delivered at Virtua West Jersey Hospital or Virtua Memorial Hospital, one of our pediatricians will examine your baby each day until you and the baby are discharged. Once home from the hospital, we currently recommend seeing newborn infants in the office by one week of age. Please call the office at 856.596.3434 during or after your hospital stay to schedule your baby’s first appointment. We typically see newborns for checkups early in the morning, but can easily accommodate you if you have alternate scheduling needs. To save time when checking in at the office, you may complete the initial registration forms and bring them to the office at your baby’s first visit.

  • When should my baby start solid foods?

As all children are different, we advise following several appropriate steps to advance your child's diet based on age and development. Please discuss these steps with our healthcare provider at your child’s well care visit.
